WandaVision Ep 9 Finale: Review and Important Details (Spoilers)

Marvel Studios' first Disney+ series, WandaVision concluded in an satisfying yet a bit confusing way with it's ninth episode finale.

MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD! STOP READING RIGHT NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SEASON FINALE!

Episode 9

The Story & The Characters

The episode starts just where the last one ended. It revolves around Wanda as Agatha tries to absorb her powers by tricking her whereas Vision fights the Spectral Vision. Small or big very character gets to do something in the episode. But still some fans might feel that a lot of them were underutilized during the big showdown even Monica. Also the reveal of Evan Peter's Pietro's identity will surely disappoint a lot of fans.

The scene where the citizens of Westview were accusing Wanda was great as it showed the sufferings of people. This also makes Wanda realize people aren't really happy even though she gave them a positive life which eventually helps her accept the harsh reality.

You can't have a superhero finale without a team up moment. This finale is no exception. We finally get to see Wanda, Vision and the twins team up. Billy and Tommy with the support of Monica and Darcy fight Hayward and SWORD. We see Monica rush to save the twins even without knowing she's able to absorb the kinetic energy of the bullets. While fighting Agatha and after absorbing back her powers and also Agatha's powers, then we get by far the best superhero costume reveal to date as Wanda wears her Scarlet Witch costume.

The Theseus scene with the two Visions was really cool and unique. In the metaphysics of identity, the ship of Theseus is a thought experiment where some parts of a boat are  replaced with other parts. Another boat is made from the parts of the previous boat which results in there being two ships. Then the question arrives which is the true ship. I think it was a great addition to this episode. But we don't get to see more of White Vision after this scene. He will probably be back in a future movie. His eventual return concerns us as it may undo the death of Vision again but again this White Vision doesn't have the Mind Stone, so can we truly call him the Vision?

The villain of this series felt underwhelming specially in the finale. Agatha had a lot of potential but her motivation was quite generic. She just wanted to absorb Wanda's powers and that was it. The best part about Agatha has to be the performance by Kathryn Hahn. Hayward also felt underwhelming in this episode. He didn't do much in the finale and got arrested very quickly thanks to Darcy. The finale could have done Hayward better but they didn't.

The finale did do an amazing job in wrapping up the series and the story of Wanda and Vision. The series wasn't really a mystery story as people expected at the start. It was mainly an exploration of Wanda's grief.

The Ending

The ending house scene is truly beautiful to say the least. Throughout the series we have seen Wanda go through four of the five stages of grief; denial, anger, bargaining and depression except for acceptance. This episode finally enabled Wanda to accept her loss. The line 'Family is Forever' from episode 5 really elevated the emotional goodbye moment with the twins.

'Who the Vision actually is?' has been a big question through out the series. It gets finally answered in this episode in a gorgeous way. There are a lot parallel between Vision's goodbye scene and the starting scene from Infinity War. After the disappearance of Vision and the twins along with the hex, we also see Wanda accept the accusations of people as they blame her for everything. We then get a nice discussion scene between Monica and Wanda reflecting on their grief and what Wanda sacrificed for the citizens of Westview. She also promises Monica that she will try to know more about her powers.

There is one mid and one post credit scene in the episode. The first one teases Captain Marvel 2 as a Skull invites Monica to space. In the second one we see Wanda reading the Darkhold as the soundtrack from the first Doctor Strange movie plays and we hear Billy and Tommy scream for help which teases their eventual return.

Major Details

During Vision vs Spectral Vision scene, Spectral Vision tried to remove the Mind Stone to stop Vision which is a callback to how Thanos killed Vision in Infinity War. Also during Wanda vs Agatha during the beginning, Wanda attacks Agatha with a car which is a callback to Captain America Civil War when she attacked Tony with cars.

After absorbing back her power and also Agatha's power from the dark dimension, Wanda gets her outfit. After that we hear Agatha say Wanda will need her help which might be a hint that she might turn into a mentor figure to Wanda in the future.

When Monica fights Quicksilver, I mean Ralph, she sees purple glow around his necklace which further solidifies her power to see different frequencies.

Final Verdict

The finale might not be what many people theorized or may not have the best written villain and some character may have felt underutilized, the series excelled in what they were trying to tell. The series was primarily about grief, mental health, loss and most importantly about family and they excelled in it.
