Apple's wireless file transfer system, also known as AirDrop, is very useful and handy. But it can be slow while transferring large files between devices. Apple is now looking to solve that.
Apple recently filed a patent in USPTO. The parent suggests, Apple might be looking to use lasers in future devices to ensure faster AirDrop. With the laser, the data stream will be targeted making data transfer more secure. This information was brought to light by AppleInsider last Tuesday.
Apple knows that it will be difficult to line up the devices exactly. So they are going to use a movable lens which can alter the laser’s trajectory. This will automatically target the laser at the receiving device without any annoying alignment issues.
It should be noted that, Apple just got the patent accepted and most of the patents don't come to reality. So we just have to wait and see if Apple really ends up using lasers in their upcoming smartphones.
