Avatar 2 and all other upcoming sequels of Avatar have been delayed a whole year to 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In recent few weeks, many film industries and studios were seen to postpone the release dates of many anticipated movies and TV shows. Producers hoped to reopen the theater industry again but the rise of coronavirus cases are still making it impossible for film industries.
Marvel Studios are up with the same problem and the Avatar movies are also in the same boat. Avatar 2 through Avatar 5 was earlier announced to release from the year 2021, but per Disney, now all the sequels have been delayed a whole year. Avatar 2 was originally supposed to release December 2021 which got delayed to 2022. This also delays the other sequels which were supposed to release at two years basis. As a result, the last announced movie, Avatar 5, is now supposed to release in 2028.
James Cameron released a statement regarding the delay of Avatar 2 and other sequels in Twitter, mentioning the pandemic affecting their production work.

No such movie has delayed their premiere for a whole year. But since we are talking about Avatar, this does make quite a sense. A whole decade of wait for a sequel of a movie is quite unusual and as we are talking about Avatar, it requires more time the most.
A full year delay is quite a long delay for movies but it would be rather small for Avatar. The longer the delay, the better they can polish all the details of the movie scenes. And hopefully, Avatar 2 through Avatar 5 will be worth the wait.
