Kat Dennings teased a new side of Darcy in the upcoming episodes of WandaVision

From the initial reveal of WandaVision at 2019's San Diego Comic-Con, Kat Dennings's Darcy Lewis has been one of the most surprising inclusions.

Having made her debut in the divisive first two Thor films, before being left absent from Taika Waititi's third and seemingly fourth installments, it seemed as if Darcy's story had come to an end. That was until Kevin Feige brought Dennings out on stage as part of WandaVision's uniquely mixed ensemble cast from all corners of the MCU. Dennings made her debut in the series in last week's fourth episode, as Darcy, now a Doctor and no longer Jane Foster's assistant teamed up with S.W.O.R.D to investigate Wanda's Westview sitcom bubble.

In a discussion with TV Line, Dennings opened up on the new, more useful role of Darcy in the show, as her past appearances had mostly been used her as comedic relief to break up the serious moments. A distinctly memorable moment of WandaVision's fourth installment had Darcy correcting a S.W.O.R.D agent on her proper title as a Doctor. Dennings commented on this scene, saying:

I like the tone it sets right off the bat. Like, ‘Sir, please. I am a doctor, thank you very much. I can only imagine, [as] someone who didn’t go to college, just how much she worked for that title, so she wants to be addressed correctly, as she should.”

In the time since 2013's Thor: The Dark World, along with Avengers: Endgame's five-year time jump, it's been a full ten years since fans last saw Darcy. Naturally, the character has made a lot of developments over time, including pursuing the astrophysics doctorate degree she began in Thor: The Dark World. Dennings expressed her gratitude to the writers over these major changes, saying:

“I am so grateful to the writers for giving her this rich backstory because the last time we saw her, she was Jane Foster’s intern, and the joke was that she’s a political science major and not a science major. It’s really fun to see that [the] influence Jane Foster had on her results in her actually becoming an astrophysicist… She’s the same girl, but now she has a bunch of degrees and a bunch of information. She’s a boss now.”

The actress went on to tease what's to come for the character over the remaining five episodes, promising fans will see things from Darcy that have not been seen before, along with the promise of a lot more interaction between Darcy and FBI agent Jimmy Woo.

It's clear from the fourth WandaVision episode that Darcy, Jimmy Woo, and the S.W.O.R.D team have plenty more to do outside of the Westview bubble, as Wanda continues to cause chaos on the inside. Fans were left last week with a lot of questions regarding the bubble situation; however, they may be waiting a few weeks for answers as the show returns to its classic sitcom focus.

The promise of more from Darcy and Agent Woo will be extremely exciting for fans who continue to enjoy the dynamic between the two, with many even calling for an X-Files-inspired spin-off for the duo. Whatever the future may hold, it's clear their characters still have plenty more to do over the remainder of this series.

WandaVision will debut its fifth episode this Friday, exclusively on Disney+
