Google Photos will soon be able turn your 2D photos into Cinematic 3D Images

Google has recently announced a cool new feature for Google Photos which will turn your regular images into 3D images using artificial intelligence. They are calling it ‘Cinematic photos’ as it will turn any 2D image into a cinematic 3D one.

This feature will work in the Memories section of the app. You won't have to do anything. It will showcase a regular picture from your gallery in 3D even if the actual picture does not have any depth information on it.

It will use machine learning and envisage an image’s depth and create a 3D representation of the scene. Then the app will use a virtual camera to add a smooth panning movement to the image.

Memories will surface photos of the most important people in your life, and very soon it will also show your favorite things and activities too like sunsets, cycling, hiking etc. Of course you can always hide specific people or time periods to avoid the embarrassing pictures in your gallery turning into a collage or a 3D image.

You can also turn off the feature if you want. To turn it off tap on your profile photo and then go to “Settings -> Memories -> Advanced -> Toggle on/off Cinematic photos.”

Moreover, Google Photos will also get some new collage designs that will be populated and stylized using AI.

This feature will be publicly available next month.
