OnePlus Watch may not come with Wear OS

Based on the recent rumors it seems like OnePlus is gearing up to launch their own smartwatch. Previously it was rumoured to launch with OnePlus 8T, but that didn’t happen. Even before the release of the regular OnePlus Watch, straps of a special Cyberpunk 2077 edition made the rounds on the internet last week. A new leak suggests that OnePlus may not use Google’s Wear OS software in their own smartwatch as a reliable tipster Max Jambor claims that the company will not use WearOS even as the underlying platform with a custom skin on top. So OnePlus may be developing their own OS for its smartwatch under the hood.

So it seems like OnePlus is preparing to enter the wearable market with a long-term vision. It will be interesting to see if we get sufficient app support in the smartwatch. Also seeing the current state of the smartwatch market it will be interesting to see how OnePlus handles the market as aside for Apple no other company would make a significant mark in this market.

We already know that OnePlus will not be a rebranded the Oppo Watch, which has the same design language seen on the Apple Watch. Take this with a grain of salt as nothing is confirmed yet. OnePlus Watch is rumored to launch alongside OnePlus 9 series.
