Almost all of the mobile phone manufacturers in the world are somehow trying to hide their front-facing cameras for an uninterrupted display. We have seen many phones with hidden front cameras or pop-up front cameras in order to solve this problem. Taiwanese electronics manufacturer Asus was also included; Its Zenfone 6 had a camera that flipped from the back to the front removing the front camera overall. Now Asus is continuing this trend in their Zenfone 7 and 7pro.
Display
Zenfone 6 was such a phone that paved the way for the innovation of smartphones. And now an improved version of this phone is the Zenfone 7 and 7 pro. The Zenfone 6 used a 1080p IPS panel which helped them to reach the $500 price point but was not something people wanted in a phone like this. The Zenphone 7 series, however, will come with a 1080p+ AMOLED panel with a 90HZ refresh rate which is a huge improvement over the previous phone and exactly what people want in a phone like this. The phone also has gorilla glass 6 protecting the 6.67inch AMOLED panel.
Camera
The Zenfone 7 series has the same camera mechanism as the Zenfone 6 but the Zenfone 6 had dual camera setup while the Zenfone 7 has a Triple camera system which acts both as front and back camera. Asus claims this camera to flip faster than the Zenfone 6. The specs for the camera are:
- Up to 12X telephoto lens
- 64 MP main camera
- 12 MP ultrawide angle camera
CPU and RAM
The Zenfone 7 is not a gaming phone but it has the Snapdragon 865+ chipset on the pro version and a non-plus 865 on the regular version. The Zenfone is an all-rounder and Asus wants it to be good at everything. In both cases, you get the same ram specs which are LPDDR5 p to 8GB Ram (Vanilla starts at 6 GB). Storage is 128GB for the regular version and 256GB for the Pro version.
Battery
The Zenfone 7 and 7 pro has the same battery as the Zenfone 6 which is a monster 5000MAH battery. But this year Asus has combined the 5000MAH battery with a 30W fast charger which is a major improvement over the Zenfone 6. The Zenfone 7 goes from absolute 0% to 60% in just 34min. In comparison, the Zenfone 6( 18watt) takes 54min to accomplish the same task. The Zenfone 7 also has the same charging controls as its ROG sibling.
The phone also has a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. But like the ROG phone 3, the Zenfone also has no headphone jack.
Pricing and Release Date
The Zenfone 7 and 7 pro are destined to release globally on September 1. It will be released in Taiwan with a price of around $750 for the Zenfone 7(6GB ram 128GB ram) and $950 for the Zenfone 7pro(8GB and 256GB). Global pricing will be announced next week.
