1. The Series Was Never Supposed To Be Named 'FRIENDS'
Initially, the series was meant to be called 'Friends Like Us','Six Of One','Insomnia Cafe' and quite a few other titles. When the first show premiered in September 1994, the title was shortened to 'Friends'.
2. Courtney Cox Wanted Monica

3. The Filming Was Never Done in New York
Though the show was about six friends living in New York but the shooting never took place in there, at all. The show was made at Warner Bros Studio at Los Angeles and the exterior shot of the Friends' apartment were a shot in New York at the edge of Bedford and Grove Street.
Well, that's the reason why people have never been able to find the fountain on the East Coast, because that's in Burbank.
4. Ross Was 29 For Three Years
There might be a few who noticed that Ross was 29 years old for three consecutive seasons.
In the third season, he denies Chandler's offer to chocolate milk by saying,"No thanks, I'm 29". In the fourth season, when the guys realize that they don't like partying as they used to, Joey says to Ross and Chandler,"We're 29". In the fifth season, when he was having doubts marrying Emily, he mentions that he's getting divorced twice before age 30.
Another thing that is odd is Ross seemed to have two birthdays. He told Gunther that his birthday is in December, whereas in the ninth season he tells Joey that his birthday is on October 18.
5. Lisa Kudrow Was Actually Pregnant
With Kudrow's pregnancy, the writers decided Phoebe to act as a surrogate for her brother's triplets. In realiaty, Kudrow got pregnant with her son Julian Murray in 1997.
6. Apartment number was changed during the series
Did you notice that Monica's apartment number suddenly changed? At the beginning of the series, Monica's door had the number 5 and Chandler's and Joey's was 4. Later on the producers realized that it wasn't compatible as Monica lived on a higher floor. So, ultimately, the number was changed to 20 from 5 and Chandler's apartment was also changed to 19 from 4.
7. Marcel The Monkey Was Played By Two Monkeys
Marcel the monkey became one of our most favourite pet in the series. You will be surprised to know that Marcel was played by two capuchins. One was Katie and another was Monkey(weird name for a monkey). Schwimmer was not a fan of working with them mostly because he wasn't allowed to play with them.
8. The Central Perk Couch Wasn't Supposed To Be Orange
The famous couch of central perk featured in almost all the episode as the go-to spot in the coffee house. Did you every thought how it would have been if the couch was some other colour? Well, that could have been possible because the couch was never meant to be orange. The producers were on the look out for a beige couch instead, ended setting for bright orange.
The producers found it in the basement of Warner Bros Studios. One thing can be admitted that it at least saved them a little money.
9. Bruce Willis Appeared On The Set For Free
Bruce Willis appeared in Friends as Paul Stevens, who was supposed to be the father of Ross's girlfriend, Elizabeth. He made a bet with Mathew Perry that if he losses then he"ll come to friends for free. Eventually, he did lose the bet.
But in actuality, he was paid for his appearance and he donated all his money for charity.
10. Gunther Was A Real Barista
Despite Gunther's first line came after 33 episodes, eventually he became a regular character. James Micheal Tyler got the part of Gunther because he knew how to use an espresso machine. He actually worked in a coffee shop in Hollywood until season four. But the funny thing is that he never actually made one with the espresso machine of central perk.
Bonus Mention:
11. Matt LeBlanc Had Only 11$ Before He Auditioned For Friends
You will obviously be surprised to hear that Matt LeBlanc had only 11$ in his bank account before he came to friends. So, the part of Joey Tribbiani was indeed a big breakthrough for him.
That wraps up the first part of '10 facts you didn't know about FRIENDS'. Hope you had fun going through the lesser known facts about friends. We will be back very soon with the second part, till then, stay safe.
