When Marvel Studios released Iron Man 1 in 2009, nobody knew that it would become one of the most successful studios in Hollywood. Marvel has given us 23 movies in the Infinity Saga which started with Iron Man 1 in 2008 and ended with Avengers: Endgame in 2019. It has given us a lot of marvelous moments. So fasten your seatbelts as we rank the top 15 Infinity Saga moments.
Honorable Mentions
Marvel gave us a tough time to rank 15 best moments in the mcu. Before you reveal our list here are the honorable mentions:
- I am always angry(The Avengers)
- Thor vs Hulk(Thor Ragnarok)
- After party(Avengers Age of Ultron)
- Ant-man vs Yellow jacket (Ant-man)
- I am Iron Man(Iron man)
- The car scene(Spider-Man homecoming)
- Elevator fight (Captain America the Winter Soldier)
15. The Glowing Tribute
Dark World is one of the few MCU movies disliked by the fans. But the funeral scene of Frigga proves that even the worse mcu movies can have great scenes. In this scene we see the entire Asgard showing tribute to Frigga in a beautifully shot scene with a mourning score by Brian Tyler. Frigga is worn away apocryphal Viking funeral, pour into the falls with a burning look. At Odin's signal her body turns into stars and joins the constellation. This is an emotional scene and a catalyst for Thor and Loki's enmity.
14. I have come to Bargain
Scott Derrickson gave us a new look at the MCU. Doctor Strange one was a creatively shot film in the MCU and the most creative part of the film was the final battle with Dormammu. Dormammu, the ruler of the dark dimension easily overpowers Strange. But Strange makes a very smart move and traps him in a timel which forced Dormammu to leave Earth. It really felt fresh and unique by subverting the final villain formula.
11. You've become part of a bigger universe
13. T'challa vs Eric Killmonger
Killmonger was a victim of social injustice and he was angry of Wakanda for not helping the world. The environment of the fight is also to be noted as it takes place at dusk with a few people present to see the fight, messaging the audience that the fight is small and personal.
In the fight T' Challa carries a shield which shows his eagerness to resolve it peacefully. But Killmonger had two weapons in two hands, showing that he only wanted to attack. While fighting Killmonger kept on attacking relentlessly. The key moment comes when Killmonger slices T'Challa's legs and Shuri cries out. This is crucial because until this point Shuri had full faith on her brother. Then Killmonger kills T'Challa's mentor Zuri. This breaks T'Challa's spirit. He can't even win the fight and protect his people and thus he is not worthy to be king.
12. Peter under a rubble
Marvel fans were very excited when Marvel Studios' announced that Spider-Man would soon join the MCU. After his debut in Civil War, he got a solo movie. The movie dealt with Peter proving Tony and himself that we was a worthy superhero. In the entire movie, he tries to help others even if it was difficult. He even ditches his homecoming dance to stop Vulture from stealing Tony's tech. At that time we get a great scene of Peter Parker under the rubble. He is in trouble. He wanted to do good but now he is in danger. He cries for help. But nobody shows up. He is all alone. He then looks at his reflection on the water and reminds himself, Spider-Man is not the suit. It is a wonderful moment there Peter regains his self confidence and grows up a bit towards becoming a matured superhero.
11. You've become part of a bigger universe
Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, people didn't have the habit to sit through the credits. But Iron man 1 changed all that. This scene was a very big deal at that time as nobody ever imagined different heroes uniting in any movie. It also started the trend of marvel post credit scene. Every MCU movie had a post credit scene aside for Endgame. If we had to rank the post credit scenes the Spidey identity reveal one in Far from home is a close second.
10.Spider-man vs Mysterio
We couldn't decide between Spidey's two fights with Mysterio. So we ended up putting them in the same position. In ffh, Peter doesn't want to be the hero, he wants to be the one to look up to the hero. When he hands over the glass to Mysterio, similar to Homecoming (not taking Iron Spider suit) he articulates his responsibility by accepting his limitations. But unlike in Homecoming, as Fury says he is ready to be his own hero to the point that people like Flash look upto him. In the first battle Mysterio cast illusions on Peter by CGI in a stunning comic book come to life sequence.
Later on Happy tells Peter nobody is perfect and we should strive to be a better man and overcome our limitations. Then Peter makes his new suit and goes to the London bridge where a big fight takes place. Spidey first goes against the drones and finally reaches Beck and even defeats him by his Peter Tingle. Peter holds the revolver when Beck tries to shot him. Honestly,it was one of the coolest moments in the movie.
9. Yondu's farewell
Guardians 2 explores a lot of mature themes; fatherhood, fear of abandonment, abuse. The final scene is the combination of all these themes. Yondu is a flawed character who tries not to care about anyone but at the end he cared the most. In Guardians 1, he made many excuses to not kill Quill. The brilliant choice was to pair him up with Rocket, the younger and probably the angrier version of Yondu. Both of them are scared to love and having it taken away from them. But in the last scene, Yondu rescues Peter. This time he expresses his love towards Peter.
In the final cathartic farewell show, Yondu's friends show up even though Yondu was harsh to them at moments. The beautiful fireworks reflect on Peter, on Gamora, on Drax, on Mantis, on Kraglin and most importantly on Rocket.
8.Don't waste your life
Iron man movie started the MCU.RDJ and Favreau along with Kevin Feige are one of the few persons responsible for the success of the MCU. The cave sequence is excellent. It is full of tension as the suit boots up while the Ten rings are trying to smash their way through. The final exchange between O Yinsen and Tony was very sad. O Yinsen's last statement was-"Don't waste your life." This made Tony what he is known for, Iron man. This cave sequence was about saving himself and now it was about escaping to save others.
7. If I am the only one so be it...but I am willing to bet I am not
7. If I am the only one so be it...but I am willing to bet I am not
When the Russos got the responsibility to make Steve Rogers cool and interesting they knocked it out of the park. And Cap's speech is one of the best in the movie. Steve has always been shaped by his moral. We have seen him fight the evil, but this is the first time he saw the effect on Captain America on others. He announces that Hydra infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D. People they trusted for months, even years could be complete strangers. Nobody could trust anybody.
The scene starts off quiet as Brock Rumlow, a Hydra mercenary walks to the guy who is the center of mission control. It is his job to launch the helicarrier and help Hydra kill thousands. He takes his decision and closes his eyes and wait for his execution. Then the scene progresses gun turns on guns, friends turns on friends. As per Captain's Order.
6. NewYork Battle
2012's The Avengers changed Hollywood overnight. Joss Wedon brought all six beloved heroes together to fight a compelling villain, Loki. This battle had ups and downs. It is said Iron man started the MCU and The Avengers gave it the momentum and this moment is one of the reasons the Avengers became a worldwide hit.
5. Airport Battle
This is one of the most personal fights in the MCU. Everybody in the fight cares about the other side and don't want to harm them physically. It's not a world ending fight, it's an internal one which makes it unique and no matter who wins it's still heartbreaking.
Spider-Man finally makes his MCU debut here. Black Panther is also in this battle. The battle is choreography is excellent. There are many unique fight sequences which keeps us entertained through the entire battle.
4. Did you know?
The big revelation in Civil War comes when Zemo reveals that Bucky Barnes killed Tony's parents. Till this point, though the Avengers fought among themselves, they had no intention to injure anyone. But this time Tony was so pissed off that he was willing to even murder him and you can't blame him. Robert Downey Jr. probably gave his best in this scene. Tony gets more shocked when he comes to know Cap knew everything all along. The moral figure who he respected all along was not as moral as he thought. Tony fights Cap and Bucky at the moment. Cap defends Bucky as Bucky was his friend to which Tony replies, "So was I" which shatters down their friendship.
3. We are Groot
Before 2014s the Guardians of the Galaxy, very few knew the characters. But James Gun turned them into household names. All the members of the Guardians were outcast. They initially worked as a team for their personal need. But in the duration of the film they start to bond with one another. The scene where Groot branches out and surrounds the guardians to protect is terrifically beautiful. Throughout the movie Groot said,"I am Groot" in response to everything in different tones. But this time he says,"We are Groot" for the first time and along with him closing his branches around them symbolizing that they are finally family.
2. The Snap
One of the few complaints about Marvel movies and superhero movies in general is the predictable ending. The hero somehow wins and the villain loses. But Infinity war subverts all expectations. After Thanos's snap we see half the world decimate. We see T'Challa turn to dust in front of Okoye, the brave warrior who dedicated her entire life for the king. That king is gone now. Groot starts to fade away just as he says his last line which in that moment he was saying 'Dad' to Rocket. Rocket stumbles towards him and tries to get him in time but no use. Wanda holds Vision as she fades into nothing. Meanwhile, in Titan the Guardians disappear before realizing what is happening. Doctor Strange who had seen all other way said there was no other way than fading away. Then we see Peter begging in the hands of Tony as he cries for help. Tony helplessly sees Peter turn to dust as Nebula stands by and says- He did it.
The Spidey dusting scene was completely improvised by actor Tom Holland so props to him for this heartbreaking scene.
The entire 3rd Act of Endgame is an emotional rollercoaster. It feels like it has been made by the fans for the fans. Firstly, we get the Marvel Trinity fight Thanos. Then we see Cap wield Mjolnir in an awe-inspiring moment, the moment Marvel has been building up since 2015s the Age of Ultron. But that isn't enough. Thanos shreds Cap's shield, the shield that was with Cap as a defense is gone. But Cap still manages to stand up. The last Avenger stands tightens his broken shield as he prepares to face an entire army all by himself. Then we get the magical moment. All the heroes turned to dust appears through the portal and we hear Cap say the words we were waiting to hear since 2012- Avengers Assemble. The fantastic score by Alan Silvestri makes the scene even more magical.
The battle takes a turn as we get many cool moments- Tony and Spidey's reunion, Spidey carrying the gauntlet, Captain Marvel completely wrecking Thanos's ship and Wanda relentlessly attacking Thanos and many more. Finally, we see Tony sacrifice his life, saying the last words of the first MCU movie-"I am Iron".
We hope Marvel would give us more great jaw dropping moments in Phase 4 and beyond. Thanks to you for sticking with us till the end. Make sure to let us know your favorite moment in the MCU in the comments section down below. Be safe and have a great day.
