Fans finally get to see what happened to Loki after Avengers Endgame as Episode 1 for the Disney+ Loki series premiere today. Loki, the God of Mischief, returns as he has been taken into TVA for his crimes against the Sacred Timeline.
SPOILER WARNING! IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE FIRST EPISODE!
The Story-view
The episode starts with Loki escaping from New York with the Tesseract reaching Mongolia. There, the TVA Hunters who are the staff or working force of the agency, takes Loki to TVA where he is put before the judge. Miss Minutes, the animated character, gives a view of what the basic of multiverse timeline is and what was there before this sacred timeline. It is revealed that, before this timeline, there were numerous other timelines who battled each other for supremacy which created a multiversal war. To take care of that, the Time-Keepers reorganized the multiverse into a single timeline.
On the other side, Owen Wilson's character Mobius investigates a scene from 1549 in France, where a unit of their Hunters and minutemen were killed by a Variant. Now, in this scene a inhabitant girl pointed to a demon creature as the guilty behind this massacre. Mobius then meets Loki and hires him as he sees potential in him to get to his mad Variant. Loki gets to know how his future would have been in case he didn't take the Tesseract and also found bunch of infinity stone in a desk of TVA staff. It surprises him as he starts to think of this place as greatest power in the universe.
Ending
After Loki realizes the true power of TVA, he comes in an agreement with Mobius as he reveals that he needs Loki's help in order to stop another Variant. Being asked why he needs the help of the God of Mischief, Mobius replies, "The Variant we're hunting is...you." This leads to a scene where Hunters and Minutemen go check a devastated Salina, Oklahoma in 1858, where a hooded figure burns down the place. The figure burns the men down and takes the Reset Charge. Now it has been said earlier that the figure has been taking the reset charge for some purpose which may be revealed in future episodes.
Major Details
The first shot after escaping, where Loki is seen using the Tesseract to reach Mongolia highly parallels Tony Stark's desert scene from Iron Man. Loki comes out from a puff of smoke and crash lands on a desert just like the way Tony Stark first escapes the cave all the way back in first Iron Man movie. This was totally on purpose as it hints at a second chance for the characters after going through a wrong path as redemption.
When Loki is brought in into TVA, if you look closely to the other figures, you will notice a Skrull. After showing up on Captain Marvel, Spider-Man: Far From Home and WandaVision, it is clear that the Skrull race has started to populate all around the universe which could lead us to the confirmed Secret Invasion story-line.
When Loki is stripped and new clothes being worn, Loki keeps falling and falling from each level which could be a nod to a scene from Thor: Ragnarok where Doctor Strange makes him fall into a portal where he keeps falling for 30 minutes. Fate is fate I guess!
Miss Minutes reveals that there was a Multiversal War which was brought to peace by Time-Keepers. But with Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness coming up in future, it seems the show will end with Loki somehow start another one.
We see yet another "Devil" in the details (get it?) who said to be the reason behind the massacre on France in 1549. The girl points to the demon creature but it was later revealed that the Variant is actually a version of Loki himself, probably Lady Loki. So, no! This is not a Mephisto detail!
In the courtroom, there are a bunch of portraits of living figures whose identity have not been revealed. But a certain figure does look like someone we are familiar with, isn't it? We can make out a person who looks to be Stan Lee. Since his death, Marvel had confirmed that they will be including him in more decent and advanced ways which was also seen in Venom: Let there be Carnage trailer where Stan Lee was on the cover of a magazine. And a picture of him could be one of the way Marvel had promised to pay tribute to Stan.
Also one of the biggest unsolved mysteries of America's history has been solved. It was Loki all along! It seems Marvel has made Loki the D.B Cooper of MCU and Loki had to do it as he lost a bet to Thor.
Final Verdict
Watching Tom Hiddleston in this time bending journey is a joy to our souls. The episode puts out a cliffhanger on the alternate Loki Variant and hopefully the villain of the series. Tom Hiddleston's acting is on point through out the episode. The emotions, guilt, sadness of the future he will never get, through out this character development, Hiddleston has been marvelous. Owen Wilson as a side character for Loki is an absolutely perfect choice and what an acting duo this is going on and going to be! Though the episode was slow paced, the amount of details and story put on this part makes up for it.
Rating: 8.5/10
