Earlier this week there were rumors that Google might cancel its budget 5G line. But now Google has issued a statement confirming the Pixel 5a 5G does exist and will be released later this year.
“Pixel 5a 5G is not canceled. It will be available later this year in the US and Japan and announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced.” – A Google spokesperson
Moreover, Google acknowledged that global supply chain issues might limited wider availability. Google might eventually offer the Pixel 5a 5G for more countries. But the Tech Giant confirmed that the next mid-range Pixel will be released regardless.

Renders for the “Pixel 5a” emerged in February. The render showed a design that’s almost identical to the Pixel 4a 5G. It was said to be slightly taller and thicker. The Pixel 5a 5G will likely retain the same main cameras and presumably still use a Qualcomm processor, with Whitechapel reserved for this year’s flagship. While very similar to the 4a 5G, a cheap Pixel with a large screen and the latest cellular technology should be popular. As of now, it’s unclear wheter the device would have Sub-6 in the US or mmWave support.
The Pixel 4a was announced in August 2020 and went on sale immediately. Its successor, Pixel 5a should get released around the same time, according to Google. It may also get announced at I/O 2021 next month. Pixel 4a 5G released last year alongside the Pixel 5. So we can assume that Pixel 5a 5G will also release alongside Pixel 6.
