Oppo X 2021: A concept device with an expandable OLED Display

Oppo is well known for its crazy concept devices.  Oppo X 2021 is such a crazy concept device whose can be extended when necessary.

Initially showcased in INNO DAY 2020, This phone will work as a typical 6.7-inch OLED smartphone. However, when necessary the Smartphone display can unroll and give users the additional screen space. When the phone is opened, it will then be able to stretch all the way up to 7.4-inches.

Unlike other foldable devices, in this device the display extends. Oppo X 2021 would also include a back that is designed to look quite similar in both rolled and unrolled condition.

The display is an OLED screen which rolls into the frame via a 6.8mm Roll Motor. Moreover there is a 2-in-1 support frame plate inside for taking care of the rolled-up screen. During the presentation, OPPO used a 0.1mm Warp Track laminate to protect the screen.

TCL has been working on extending display technology for a while now. But with this prototype, Oppo became the first company to unveiled a working expandable smartphone prototype.

Just like every other concept device, there is a 50-50 chance of this getting launched. It was also stated that if this phone does go on sale, it will most likely just be a China-exclusive phone. If this prototype ends up being successful we might get to see more expendable phones from Oppo available across the globe.
