Portless iPhone can be a great decision but are we ready for it?

Apple is probably the only smartphone maker who doesn't put USB-C in their flagship phones. Every year people have been expecting Apple to rock USB-C in their latest phone. They are now hoping this year's iPhones would have USB-C. But a recent Tweet suggests Apple would still stick with lightning port this year too. But the Twitter user also hints at the arrival of a port less iPhone as early as 2021.

So Apple might not include USB-C ever and directly make their phones portless. It will help them get more space inside the phone. This would allow Apple to make a slimmer phone. They can also have bigger batteries.

The idea of an iPhone with smart connector is something new. Rather rumors about a portless iPhone is circulating before the release of 2018  iPhone X. If there was any company to be bold enough to release a portless flagship phone and make people really use it, that company is surely Apple.

Apple ditched 3.5mm headphone jack in 2017. The majority didn't like the decision. But it really helped boost up the wireless headphone business and we also got more good wireless headphones because of it. When Apple does something, it is likely it would be copied by other companies. Following Apple many other smartphone companies ditched the headphone jack. Many companies even started having notches in their smartphones after the launch of iPhone X.

Interestingly headphone jack is not the only thing Apple removed before people were ready to give it up. In 1998, Apple killed the floppy disk and now floppy disks are almost non existent.  So, the same case might happen with smartphone ports and ports in general as we head towards a wireless future.

Charging isn't the only thing those ports are used for. Those ports are also needed for transferring data to computers and laptops. Even though Airdrop is fast, it only works with Apple devices. So the owner of Windows laptop having an iPhone would have to look for an alternative.

So it is highly likely that after Apple removes the lighting port many companies would also start making portless phones. The consumers would face problems initially , but it would highly inspire and even force smartphone makers to improve wireless technology. It will be hard at first, but it could be a big step towards a port less future.
