YouTube is probably the best site to listen to music lining up with Spotify. But if we want the songs to play on the background we have to pay for YouTube Premium or YouTube Music. You are out of complete luck if those two aren't available in your country. But no worries, we are here to help you listen to your favorite songs on YouTube while you are busy doing other stuffs on your phone. In this way you can play a video and turn off the screen and the audio will still keep playing.
For Android
This method will work on any Android browser having the 'desktop site' feature. Let me get you through the process.
- Go to the YouTube site from your mobile browser. It won't work if you use the app.
- Find the song or video.
- Then go to the three dot menu at the top of the screen and select 'Desktop mode'.
- Again start the video.
- After starting the video hit the home button and return home. The video will stop.
- Pull down your notification panel and you should see the song there. Now just hit the play button and enjoy the song.

Barbara from The Verge said she had problems playing multiple tracks on Android by this method. I didn't face that problem. So you may or may not face this problem.
For iPhone
- Just like Android use any browser. As it is an iPhone, I am explaining using Safari.
- Firstly open the browser and find the video.
- For iOS 13 and above click the "AA" button and look for "Request Desktop Website" and click it. For iOS 12 or older click on the share button at the bottom and you should see the "Request Desktop Website" option.
- Then close the browser and go back to your home screen. Make sure the video is playing before you go back to your home screen.
- The video will stop playing. Don't worry. Just pull down the control center and you will see the video loaded there. Now tap the play button and enjoy.
A shout-out to Daniel from Daniel About Tech YouTube channel. He let us know about the method. He also mentioned that if this method doesn't work, we have to go back to Safari and restart the video. It will most probably work then.
