Tom Holland talks about Alfred Molina and the end of the Homecoming trilogy

Marvel fans around the globe are highly anticipated for the third installment of the Homecoming trilogy, Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The first official teaser for Spider-Man: No Way Home broke all kinds of record and became the most watched movie trailer in 24 hours even surpassing the trailer view record of Avengers Endgame. The trailer confirmed the return of Alfred Molina's Doctor Octopus. Fans went crazy over the revelation and it seems like the actor who plays the MCU incarnation of Peter Parker, Tom Holland is just as excited as the fans.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Tom Holland called Alfred Molina "one of my favorite people I've ever worked with." He also added:

"It was really fun to watch him see how technology has advanced... when he was making these films, the arms were puppets, and when we did it, they were all imaginary and CG. It was quite cool to see him relive it, but also relearn it."

In the same interview with Entertainment Weekly, the star also called Spider-Man: No Way Home the "end of a franchise."

"I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you'd be seeing a very different version. It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy."

"We would give it some time and try to build something different and tonally change the films. Whether that happens or not, I don't know. But we were definitely treating [No Way Home] like it was coming to an end, and it felt like it."

While talking about his co-stars Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, Tom Holland explained that during one of the last days on set, they got quite emotional. "Sharing that moment with them was maybe the best day I've ever had on set," Holland added. "I don't think I've cried like that ever."

"We've done every single film, every single press tour. So this one scene, [we didn't know] if this would be the last time."

Based on whatever Tom Holland said it does seem like Spider-Man films in the future won't be the same any more. There are already rumors about Spider-Man leaving the MCU after this film. There are also rumors about a potential 2nd trilogy in the MCU. But as fans we really don't have anything concrete about Tom Holland's Spider-Man's future after the third film.
