YouTube will finally bring picture-in-picture to iPhone and iPad

The YouTube app on iOS will soon be getting picture-in-picture support, which will allow the users to watch videos while doing other things on their iPhones and iPads. Android users have been using PiP(Picture in Picture) since Android Oreo. But for iPhone users, picture-in-picture feature has been quite inconsistent. A lot of the users faced issues to run it on their Apple devices.

Picture-in-picture video was actually added for iPads with iOS 9. With iOS 14, Apple introduced the feature for iPhones as well.

Recently, a YouTube spokesperson told The Verge that picture-in-picture is currently rolling out to Premium subscribers. They are also working to launch it for all iOS users in the US.

"Picture-in-Picture allows users to watch YouTube videos in a small mini player while simultaneously browsing outside of the YouTube app on their mobile device. We’re starting to roll out PiP for YouTube Premium members on iOS and plan to launch PiP for all US iOS users as well.”

That complication seems to be going away, at least for the users living in the US. Soon all users including the nonpaid ones will be able to access to it. YouTube did confirm when the feature would arrive for free users, but they did state that the rollout to Premium subscribes is in progress.
