Loki Episode 3 aired today to become one of slow-paced episodes with story twisting reveals much like every other Marvel Disney+ series. With Loki and the Variant going through the TVA portal, the episode progresses through their journey into apocalypse.
SPOILER WARNING! IN CASE YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE THIRD EPISODE!
The Story-view
The episode starts with Sylvie (name revealed later on, who was first known to us to be Lady Loki) manipulating C-20 to reveal the locations of the Time-Keepers using a memory of her life. Sylvie then infiltrates TVA to reach for the Golden Elevator which has a connection with entry to the Time-Keepers. Loki follows her and fights head-to-head and uses the TemPad to get away from Renslayer. They escape to the worst apocalyptic event ever to exist (according to Sylvie) on Lamentis-1. The TemPad loses its charge as both of them start to find a source to recharge. They sneakingly end up in an ark where they get more time to know each other. Fight breaks out as they fall from the train which ends up breaking the TemPad keeping them stranded on the apocalypse. Loki learns the truth of TVA through Sylvie and the escaping ark was also destroyed by the crashing planet.
Ending
Loki learns from Sylvie that C-20, whose mind she manipulated, had a life before TVA, and she's actually from Earth. Whereas Loki who had been working with Mobius, knew that all the staffs and people working in TVA were created by the Time-Keepers. Sylvie states that to be "ridiculous" as all of them are actually Variants. This is the biggest reveal so far that all of the working body actually had a real life before TVA and Time-Keepers didn't actually create them. This puts suspicions on the Time-Keepers on whether they are actually good or bad. With TemPad broken and no escape from Lamentis-1, both Sylvie and Loki are now stuck on the coming apocalypse with no hopes.
Major Details
In the train to ark, Loki gets drunk while Sylvie takes a short nap. During drinking, Loki smashes the glass and asks for another which his brother Thor did on Earth on first Thor movie.
Loki gets thrown away from the train and he lands on the side after which Sylvie also goes after him. Loki's falling in this manner is a direct reference to the time in Thor: Ragnarok in which Doctor Strange put in through a portal where he finally fell on the ground after falling for 30 minutes.
The workers of TVA are confirmed to have been living lives before they were made to join TVA. This is why, Mobius has an interest on jet-ski and the 90s and he was probably pulled out from that era to TVA which is also the era when Mobius character was created.
When the planet starts to crash on the moon, before the ark explodes we see a building falling on Loki and Sylvie which Loki somehow rewinds into its previous intact state. Now, Loki doesn't seem to have this kind of power to manipulate time. But we did see him touching a Time Stone in the first episode. Could he have sneaked the time stone with himself or did he gain a different power by touching it? Because in all the previous appearances of the Time Stone, neither Ancient One nor Doctor Strange ever touched the stone with bare hands. The stone seemed to had a barrier or an energy field all over it and it used to float. Whatever it is, there is definitely something related to the Time Stone involved in this scene.
Also, Sylvie took her horned crown and used it as a weapon to fight the guards, similar to Loki from Thor: Ragnarok, where he fought the undead army of Hela.
As we see in the starting of the episode, C-20 was actually a human (and also every other workers of TVA) with memories probably wiped out, Sylvie's use of powers to remind her of this memory. This actually connects to it as why she desperately wants to go home (actual home). Also a minutemen referred to this situation as "She's off the dial". Could this mean that Mobius and some of his minutemen know about the memory wiping? It will be interesting how this plays out in future episodes.
Final Verdict
Even with the interesting 'End of the Planet' concept, the stakes of the episode felt quite low. Still the episode did a pretty good job at helping the audience know more about Sylvie and creating a bond between her and Loki. Although the episode did very little to progress the story, it gave the audience a massive reveal alongside the character driven quality of the episode.
