2021 iPhones could feature both FaceID and in-screen TouchID

With the release of iPhone X, Apple removed TouchID in favour of FaceID. Now it seems like Apple is working to bring TouchID. According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the 2021 iPhones will be the first ones to come with both in-display TouchID and FaceID.

WSJ corroborated Bloomberg’s report, where they claimed that two former Apple employees confirmed that the Cupertino giant has been working on in-screen fingerprint technology. Earlier this month, a Bloomberg report claimed that the 20201 iPhone line might get both FaceID and an in-display fingerprint scanner. However, the company will presumably use an optical fingerprint sensor instead of an ultrasonic one found in some Android devices. According to Apple optical sensors are apparently reliable than ultrasonic ones.

During the launch of iPhone X in 2017, the Tech Giant claimed that their FaceID was more secure than fingerprint scanners, including their own TouchID. But now it appears that Apple may want to give consumers a choice of either using Face ID or a fingerprint scanner. This seems like a great move as during this pandemic, FaceID is as intuitive considering everyone is wearing masks in the public now.
