Over Ear Headphones: Over-ear headphones generally have thick headbands and large ear cups that fully covers the ears.
On-Ear Headphones: They have smaller ear cups that rest on the ears.
Earbuds: Earbuds are small, ultra-portable headphones with earbud tips and they have no cushion.
In-Ear Headphones: In-ear headphones are also ultra-portable with small earbud tips, which are inserted into the ear canal. But unlike Earbuds they have cushions that rest on the ears.

Structure:

 The earpiece rests on the ear. The band is absent in earbuds and in-ear headphones. The sound quality in over ear and On ear is better compared to in-ear due to having large drivers.




Stripes in Headphone jack



I am pretty sure you guys have noticed the stripes in headphone jacks. Those stripes are made of polymeric materials like plastic. They can't conduct electric signals. They are used to separate different channels of electric impulses.
One stripe: It provides mono sound. Exactly same sound is heard at both sides.
Two stripes: It provides Stereo sound. That means it can provide slightly different tracks in different ears. In this way musics get their depth and complexity.

Three stripes: It alongside Stereo sound provides a microphone to speak.
Working Procedure:
Firstly electricity is supplied to the headphone through the cable. There are coils inside the headphones. Electricity charges that coil. Thus attraction and repulsion is created at the magent. The magnet moves at a high rate as a result and creates air pressure which results in the production of soundwave that are projected by the diaphragm and being amplified so that you can hear them.


When we turn down the volume, the amount of flow of current through the cable decreases and conversely when we crank up the volume more amount of current flow through the cable.

Noise Cancellation:
There are many headphones that can cancel the outside noise. Yeah, you guessed it,I am talking about Noise canceling headphones. These headphones use destructive interference. What's destructive interference, you may ask. You might have noticed small microphones in noise cancelling headphones at the drivers. So when these microphone detect soundwave, these microphone create a new wave which is exactly opposite to the detected wave. This wave cancels out the other wave and we get blissful silence. This is destructive interference.
But it is noticed that these noise cancelling headphones don't work always. It is because they are made to work where consistent noise is present.
